What is Reiki?
Reiki is a Japanese healing art developed by Mikao Usui in the early 20th century. The word itself means “universal life energy”—a subtle, vital force that flows through all living beings. Reiki is based on the principle that when this energy is balanced and flowing freely, body, mind, and spirit naturally move toward health and harmony.
In a Reiki session, the practitioner gently channels this universal energy through the hands, using specific positions on or just above the body. The energy is not directed or forced—it flows where it is needed most, supporting relaxation, emotional balance, and the body’s own ability to heal.
My Reiki Lineage
Reiki is traditionally passed from teacher to student through what’s called a lineage. This matters because it shows the direct line of teaching and care back to Reiki’s founder, ensuring that the practice has been preserved and transmitted with integrity.
My Reiki lineage connects me directly to Dr. Usui, through generations of trusted teachers:
Dr. Mikao Usui – Founder of Reiki in Japan
Dr. Chujiro Hayashi – One of Usui’s close students, who helped formalize Reiki treatments
Hawayo Takata – Brought Reiki to the West and trained the first generation of Western Reiki Masters
John Harvey Gray – Among Takata’s earliest Masters, he dedicated his life to teaching Reiki in the U.S.
Nana Deleplanque – A long-time student of John Harvey Gray, who carried forward his teachings
Myself
“The secret art of inviting happiness, the miraculous medicine of all diseases:
Just for today, do not anger. Do not worry. Be filled with gratitude. Devote yourself to your work. Be kind to people.”

There’s nothing special you need to do—just wear comfortable clothing and come with an open mind. Many people find it helpful to set a quiet intention, like “I’d like to feel more relaxed” or “I’d like support in releasing stress,” but even without an intention, Reiki flows exactly where it’s needed.
